When you will receive your results
Different tests are available at different times:
- Blood tests: usually within 7 days
- X-rays / scans: usually within 4 weeks
- Cervical smear results: sent directly to you by post within 8 weeks
If your test results show that you need further tests or treatment, we will contact you.
Getting your test results
Once a clinician has reviewed your results, you can view them:
- in your NHS account (NHS App or NHS website)
- in your SystmOnline account
- by phoning the surgery after 10:30am on 01767 312 441
Please note: our reception team are not medically trained and can only pass on information provided by a clinician.
If your test was done elsewhere
If the test was requested by another provider (for example hospital, community clinic or A&E), please contact them directly for the results.
We cannot access or action results for tests not requested by our clinicians.
Abnormal or unexpected results
- If a result needs urgent action, we will try to contact you by phone.
- If a result is non-urgent but needs follow-up, we may send you a text, letter or ask you to book an appointment.
- Not all abnormal results are serious, but they may still need to be repeated or monitored.
If you have been told your result is abnormal and you are worried, please submit a Test Results Request Form or contact the surgery to discuss this further.
Important reminders
- Please allow the usual timeframes for results before contacting us.
- We may not be able to give full details of complex results over the phone; a clinician may ask you to book an appointment instead.
- If your symptoms are getting worse or you feel acutely unwell, do not wait for test results – contact the surgery, NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
Questions about your results
If you would like to discuss your results, please complete a Test Results Request Form and a clinician will get in touch.
