Appointments

Urgent appointments

We reserve a limited number of slots each day for urgent “one problem” appointments.

To request an urgent appointment for today (Monday to Friday) during opening times:

These are not for long-standing conditions or repeat prescriptions. When you call, our receptionist will ask for a brief description of your issue and a contact number.

Calls are prioritised based on urgency; an appointment may be booked, or a clinician may call you back to discuss the best course of action. Depending on your issue, it may be resolved over the phone, or an appointment will be arranged later in the day.

Routine appointments

If your condition is non-urgent, you have the option to book a routine appointment with a doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional. Nurses based at our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions.

We offer patients the facility of booking an appointment with a doctor up to 4 weeks in advance, on a first-come, first-served basis.

To request a routine appointment in advance during opening times:

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use your answers to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or healthcare professional to help you.

Please note that our phone lines reach high demand, and we apologise in advance if you are kept waiting. We advise using our online services where possible. We do have a call-back option which holds your place in the queue to avoid staying on the phone.

If the practice has reached capacity for appointments that day, you will be redirected to other services.

Telephone consultations

We have slots available daily for “telephone advice” with a doctor if you feel your problem could be helped over the phone.

Once you have booked a telephone slot time, the doctor will try to ring you as near to that time as possible.

Your phone must be able to receive phone calls from withheld numbers as our phone number is automatically withheld.

Self care at home

You can often take care of your health conditions without needing to see us. Many minor illnesses and injuries can be treated at home with medicines you can buy without a prescription and by getting plenty of rest.

Taking care of yourself is the best choice for a sore throat, cough, or a grazed knee. If you’re not sure if you should take care of your illness yourself, you can call us on 01767 312 441 or get medical advice from NHS 111 online or call 111.

Speak to a pharmacist

Pharmacists might not be your first thought for medical advice, but they have the right training to ensure you get the help you need.

They can provide advice and over-the-counter medication for various common conditions such as coughs, colds, flu, as well as everyday issues like aches, pains, and skin rashes.

No appointment is necessary to see a pharmacist, and they will let you know if you need to see a doctor. Many pharmacies are open evenings and weekends, and often provide private consultation rooms where you can discuss issues without being overheard.

Urgent treatment centres

If you require urgent medical attention that isn’t life-threatening, you can go to an urgent treatment centre.

These centres, led by GPs, are open for at least 12 hours every day, including bank holidays. They can diagnose and treat various common ailments including:

  • sprains and strains
  • suspected broken limbs
  • minor head injuries
  • cuts and grazes
  • minor scalds and burns
  • feverish illness in adults
  • feverish illness in children
  • abdominal pain

Extended hours

Patients can book a face to face or telephone appointment outside of our normal opening hours.

These appointments must be booked in advance and are available from 6:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Additionally, there are appointments available at the weekends. Please ask reception who will be pleased to book you into one of the appointments.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

We ask that you make a separate appointment for each family member, and if you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

To request a home visit for the same day, please ensure you contact the surgery directly at 01767 312 441 by 11am.

Home visit requests are accepted only for patients who are housebound due to their current illness.

All home visit requests are triaged. If deemed necessary, our clinical team will arrange a visit. Please note that home visits are not granted for reasons such as lack of transportation, childcare issues, poor weather, or financial constraints.

When requesting a home visit, please provide the specific reason for the visit and a detailed description of the problem.

Parents of children will be asked to bring their child to the surgery for assessment. Additionally, some patients may be required to attend the surgery as certain examinations cannot be conducted at home.
