Every September, we mark Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month — a time to raise understanding of this life-limiting lung disease, highlight symptoms, and call for more research and support.
Why It Matters
- Pulmonary fibrosis causes scarring of the lungs, making it harder to breathe.
- Around 32,500 people in the UK are living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
- Early diagnosis and treatment can slow the disease’s progression.
Spot the Signs
- Shortness of breath (especially during activity)
- A persistent, dry cough
- Fatigue and unexplained weight loss
- “Clubbing” of fingertips or toes
