Raising Voices. Championing Rights. Building Inclusion.
Learning Disability Week is an annual awareness campaign led by Mencap, running from Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June 2025. It’s a time to amplify the voices of people with a learning disability and shine a light on the issues that matter most to them, their families, and their carers.
What is a Learning Disability?
A learning disability is a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday activities – like household tasks, socialising, or managing money – which affects someone for their whole life.
People with a learning disability may need support in different areas, but with the right support, they can lead fulfilling and independent lives.
Why Learning Disability Week Matters
- Awareness leads to understanding.
- Understanding leads to better inclusion and support.
- Health inequalities still exist, and people with a learning disability can face barriers to accessing the care and support they deserve.
