BLOOD TEST POLICY

Phlebotomy clinics

Due to the continued pressures on primary care, it is with regret that, as a surgery, we are not able to offer phlebotomy services to some of our patients.

Current criteria for blood test appointments at our practice:

  • Over 70’s
  • Patients with long term conditions including:
    • Diabetes
    • Heart failure
    • Cancer patients
    • Learning disabilities

The reason for this is lack of capacity and multiple non-attendance for these appointments.

If you do not meet the current criteria, you will be asked to go to the hospital for your bloods. We will ask which hospital you prefer; Bedford Hospital or Lister Hospital and a request form will be raised for you to collect.

Appointments for blood tests need to be made by accessing the relevant hospital’s website.

Request forms must be taken with you to your appointment.

Blood tests requested by the hospital should be carried out at the requesting hospital.
