Love Your Liver Month & Dry January – January 2026

January is an important month for health awareness, bringing together Love Your Liver Month and Dry January — two national campaigns that encourage positive lifestyle changes and long-term wellbeing.

Love Your Liver Month, led by British Liver Trust, runs every January to raise awareness of liver health, the rising rates of liver disease, and preventable risk factors such as alcohol, obesity, and viral hepatitis. Many liver conditions develop silently, often without symptoms, until significant damage has occurred.

Alongside this, Dry January, led by Alcohol Change UK, challenges people to go alcohol-free for 31 days, helping them reflect on their drinking habits and experience the health benefits of a break from alcohol.

Why It Matters

  • Liver disease is one of the fastest-growing causes of premature death in the UK.
  • Alcohol is a major risk factor, but liver damage is often preventable.
  • Taking a break from alcohol can improve sleep, energy levels, mental wellbeing, and liver function.
  • Small changes made in January can lead to long-term health benefits.

Simple Ways to Support Your Liver

  • Take part in Dry January and reduce alcohol intake.
  • Maintain a healthy weight and eat a balanced diet.
  • Stay active with regular exercise.
  • Attend health checks or screening appointments when invited.
