World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is celebrated every year from 1st to 7th August, and this year’s theme is “Closing the Gap: Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet” – highlighting the need for broader, more inclusive support for breastfeeding across families, communities, and workplaces.
At Ivel Medical Centre, we recognise the many benefits that breastfeeding can offer for both mother and baby. From strengthening the immune system to supporting healthy development, breastfeeding plays an important role in the lifelong health and wellbeing of children.
Why Breastfeeding Matters:
- Provides ideal nutrition and antibodies to support a baby’s development
- Lowers the risk of infections, asthma, obesity, and certain illnesses
- Supports bonding between parent and baby
- Reduces risk of breast and ovarian cancers in mothers
